 2015 Warren MacKenzie Advancement Awardees
Northern Clay Center is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2015 Warren MacKenzie Advancement Awards:  Stuart Gair (Lincoln, NE) and Jacob Raeder (Chicago, IL). The grant period for each artist’s research and continued education is through May 20, 2016.
Stuart Gair

I recently recieved the 2015 Warren MacKenzie Award through the Northern Clay Center which has allowed me to travel across the country in order to view collections of art that influence my own work. The award will also enable me to take a workshop at Watershed Center for the Arts with John Neeely and David Peters in which time I will learn more about the reduction cooling process. Additionally, I will travel to the workplace of various studio potters throughout Maine in order to hear their stories of how they manage to make a living as potters.

Here are some images of intriguing collections/influences that I have come across in my travels....

HANDS DOWN best collection of Korean ceramics I came across on the east coast...included wares from various eras as well as an instructional video of how the vessels were traditionally produced!

My favorite unplanned discovery of the trip was walking into this exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Titled "Nature, Sculpture, Abstraction, and Clay: 100 Years of American Ceramics" I was able to see in person many works of American ceramic artists who I have studied closely since I started in the field.
